All of us know the popular saying which goes 'Grass is always greener on the other side of the fence'. Many a times, it is this saying that echoes in our minds when we think of changing any state of affairs.
If grass was never greener on the other side, then none of the big entities that we see today would have evolved. India wouldn't have gained independence if the freedom fighters thought 'independent India' is just the other side of the fence which looks greener. Chetan Bhagat wouldn't have become the author of 6 best-selling novels if he hadn't left his job at an Investment Bank. If Dhirubai Ambani hadn't left his job in Yemen, Reliance wouldn't exist today. All successful people and organisations we see today are a result of the risk rather the calculated risk people took.
Readers, isn't this proverb creating a horizon, a boundary or a block to our thoughts in trying out something which we really want to? Isn't calculated risks and logical weighing of pros and cons of a decision important rather than just pacifying ourselves that the grass just looks greener on the side.
There is another popular saying which goes 'Grass is greener where you water it'. But again, what if, on the other side, the soil is better and grass needs less water to be green? What I'm trying to put forth is, unless we go to the other side of the fence, we cannot conclude that the grass is less, more or as green as our side. We have to try watering the grass, fertilising and so on to see how much we are able to reap, the flowers that may bloom etc.
Understanding our Passion and making that our Profession is the ultimate. But not many of us are lucky to have our passion and profession the same. Each of us may have our own justifications to stick to doing something which we are doing which we aren't passionate about. The reasons could be
a. 'At least I have a job. There are many who are unemployed'
b. for a stable income to meet ends
c. disapproval from relatives and friends
d. lack of funds etc
If we are doing what we are passionate about then we will always find our grass the greenest. Money, name and fame will follow. Hope this article will be a seed to many big entities yet to bloom.. :)..:)
